Maiden Voyage: Energetic trio dance right into our hearts
BY IAN PATTERSON – 21 OCTOBER 2013
It’s natural to ask the question, what does it mean? There are no obvious clues in Fearghus Ó Conchúir’s 20-minute dance choreography.
Three dancers’ energetic movements are part-ballet, part-mime. At times their movements are gracefully unified, at others there’s liberation in the abstract improvisations.
Vasiliki Stasinaki, Carmen Fuentes Guaza and Oona Doherty use the entire area of the Mac’s gallery floor space to weave their story, or stories. They make strong eye contact with audience members who prop up the walls, drawing them a little closer in to the emotional energy of the dance.
A minimalist soundtrack contains different textures that accentuate the urban setting and fire the imagination.
Everybody will place their own meaning – their own feelings – on this joyful creativity.
